Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)

Given that the clean energy generated by the Projects has a quantifiable positive environmental impact, Projects can emit RECs, which represents the generation of 1 megawatt-hour from a renewable energy source. The RECs allow a company or individual to claim that the electricity they consume is renewable. For this, the entity making such a claim must retire it, by burning the corresponding token.

When energy reports are made, a REC token is minted (or a fraction of it). The REC tokens will be distributed among the uWatt holders in the same manner as the uWatt themselves are. Each REC holder will then have the choice of holding the REC, trading it, or burning it to certify his/her environmental impact.
